Bringing opera to McNally Smith?
It’s gotten the juices flowing (which is a rather disgusting phrase when you think about it… presumed to be associated with the act of salivating…ewww). And as I think about it, I wonder, why not move my recital forward to the beginning of Fall 2012 semester (since I’ll have all summer to prepare) and then do Amahl and the Night Visitors just before Christmas? It’s a fantastic little English opera perfect for Christmas season, and I know it. I could do the role of the Mother, and then we’d just need Amahl (potentially a light-voiced small female at the school) and three wisemen and a page.
Lyric Opera of the North in Duluth, did the show, and has a gorgeous little set they rent out now. We can see about renting it, do minimal costumes, and introduce the world of opera to McNally Smith.
